10:39 am - The Crucible and the Seven Deadly Sins I watched The Crucible last night. The sins were present so clearly per character. The most obvious one is the main character, but Elizabeth turned out to be the most interesting discovery.
Lust => John Proctor (stated directly) Pride => Judge Thomas Danforth (the most heinous sin!) Wrath => Abigail Williams (pretty obvious) Greed => Thomas Putnam (for land) Sloth => Elizabeth Proctor (despair in the marriage) Envy => ? Gluttony => ?
I think Reverend Parris might fulfill gluttony, with his desire for gold candlesticks, if you consider it overindulgence of anything, not just food.
I guess envy might be the townsfolk at the downfall of others in the hanging, since these were the "Good" ones, who would not lie about being witches.
I wonder if Arthur Miller considered this or if it just fell out this way.

07:55 pm - passing the torch Precipitated by a discussion about ha ha only serious and later by her suggesting I look on the internet when I wondered if a mango was ripe,
I handed my daughter my hardcopy of The New Hacker's Dictionary.
*sniff*... an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

10:19 am - they never believed me, maybe now! I went to Disney for a field trip in middle school. I was skulking towards the end of the group, as you might expect. We had just passed one of those behind-the-curtain type areas that looks like regular buildings, not magical kingdoms, and goofy pops out from a wall-colored door. He sees that I saw him, ruining the magic, so he tries to salvage a bit, and does a goofy dance. Again, as you might expect, I didn't smile or anything. I kept walking. So goofy skipped up and slapped me in the face. It was a light slap granted, but the feeling of those weird nubby gloves.. I can understand why people are scared of clowns.
but now, vindication! Tigger, Goofy, I'm sure it takes a certain kind of tweaked person to play those characters. Not to mention the effects of the florida sun in those heavy costumes. Or, really, working at disney at all.

10:27 pm - livejournal supports jabber this is neat, but nobody from my buddy list is online right now. Funny that I am making a post about jabber on livejournel to livejournal via jabber.. yeah. If you are not familiar jabber chat system, like yahoo or aim, but it's not specific to any one network. anyone can run one. That's what lj's done.
I guess another im client is a pain, but I'm already on like 10 so.. clients like gaim, trillian and meebo support multiple client connections and types anyway, so that makes it less painful.

08:11 pm - colbert tiff Since I don't have any irl friends, I'm going to post this to my internet friends
"He came to unlock the vault of your heart, and when opened it, it was empty".
that, and.. you can't post to things to real people, since they don't have browsers, and stuff.

09:40 am - (Building) Contractor woes Anyone have any contractor references in the tampa bay area? I have all this nice bamboo flooring sitting on a bare concrete floor. I had somebody lined up to do it, but I call and he doesn't respond. Too bad, he seemed good.

10:27 am - Chicken, Arise! (getting up early) I've never been good at getting up early, or going to bed early for that matter. Not that I sleep too much. I stay pretty busy, and for a variety of reasons being a night person has benefited me, but I've always thought there was some logic to the whole get-up-early thing. (Not necessarily the go to bed early part though.) I've decided to finally put forth a real effort, for two reasons. One, I'm tired of being late to anything early, and two, sometimes I shy away from things I would otherwise like to do that might require an early rise.
I've started with two tools to help me get up.
The first is this article,How to Become an Early Riser. It is spot on, and repititition is such a great technique for learning things. I tried it, and it worked this morning, but I think I need a bit more practice. I got up and said to myself "Wait, what do I do next?"
The second is this "ringtone", snagged from Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode 43, Video Ouija, which I've put on my phone to use as an alarm.

Micah's assault on the nest was a bit zealous. How's that screen look in the daylight?

07:44 pm My daughter got this in the mail. I don't understand. When I was a kid, I liked muppets, and dragons. Actually, I still do. Apparently whoever is marketing this disagrees on what kids like. Not colorful bugs or stories about dragons. No, they like black and white photos, taken before their parents parents were even born, of hungry children and adults, sitting there, doing nothing but being unhappy.

01:44 am - Welcome to mundane post Today is? Cultivating sloth. (Ah that reminds me of ultima)
Finish Draconian Measures Watch The Tao of Steve Perhaps also watch Earthsea
I have some trepidation about this last one. I remember read A Wizard of Earthsea as a kid. I was scared as sparrowhawk was followed around by that specter. Hey it was dark and the writing is good. Up late, even then. Hard habit to break. There's apparently been quite a fuss about it. Oh well, I can always turn it off. Be nice if LeGuin would embrace shared world fiction. Then we wouldn't have to wait for scifi to mess things up.
I also want to do something productive, but I can't decide what. For awhile I've been watching to write a script which downloads the FreeDB database, and use it to automatically normalize my music collection. Or maybe revamp the database I'm using to track my classes.
If you're wondering, yes the elfurl thing is an experiment. It does make posting url's a little easier, but it's still somehow tedious. Need psychic posting.
